What kind of agency am I dealing with?
Alliance One has been a source of much intimidation and frustration for many consumers. There have been reports of collection agents calling at all hours of the day and night. Many consumers reported the agents do not communicate well. – Disorganization, heavy accents, requests to speak to supervisors are denied, etc. It seems one of the more civilized complaints against them is that they often bully consumers into paying more than they owe.
But I don’t want to deal with Alliance One!
Of course you don’t. But you must. If they have a delinquent account of yours you have to get the matter resolved. Ignoring them is damaging your credit. This is most likely going to be an unpleasant experience. You might want to hire a credit repair counselor for this one. If you pursue the matter yourself, make sure you deal with them only in writing and only via certified mail. And if you feel you’re being harassed in any way, by all means, contact your Attorney General’s Office but don’t relent. You probably still owe a debt and it’s affecting your credit score! Ask Alliance One to verify the debt. This could take weeks. If they can’t prove the debt is yours, ask them to remove the item from your credit report. If it is your debt negotiate to make payments and in return ask for them to turn the derogatory item on your account to read the satisfactory statement, “Paid as Agreed”.
With this collection agency in particular we recommend consulting with the Lexington Law Firm Credit Repair Service. The staff at Lexington Law Office deals with Alliance One every day. It’s probably a good idea to give them a call.
