Remove Late Payments

Follow these simple steps to remove ANY late payment from your credit report.

STEP 1: Write a quick dispute letter to each one of the credit bureaus who is reporting the late payment[s].

Your dispute letter should include your name, address, etc. You should include the specific late payments that you are disputing on your credit report. Finally, tell them WHY you are disputing those late payments. For example, the creditor never sent you a bill, or you paid the bill on time, etc..

STEP 2: Sometimes the bureaus will just ignore your letter. Here what happens when you make mistakes with your dispute to the credit bureaus.

I had some accounts that were seriously late on my credit report. I tried everything, but could not remove some of the 90 day late payments and charged off accounts so I hired Lexington Law. They erased 99% of my late payments and other bad credit. Here's the number to call to remove late payments: 1-800-232-2903. Lexington Law has experience removing all types of late payments.

If you already sent a dispute letter and STILL have the late payment on your credit report, then here are some other things you can do:

Debt Validation: This is a well kept secret that credit card companies prefer you don't know about. You can bypass the credit bureaus and dispute directly with the creditor or collection agency reporting the negative credit information.

Goodwill Negotiation: Again, if you've already tried disputing a late payment with the bureaus, then you can try to persuade the credit card company to voluntarily remove the late payment. I wouldn't try this unless you consider yourself a skilled negotiator.

I admit that I was afraid to ask the credit card companies to remove my late payments. I called Lexington Law and had them do it for me. Here is the direct number to call to have Lexington Credit Repair Service conduct goodwill negotiations on your behalf: 1-800-232-2903.

How Bad is a Late Payment on Your Credit Report? Late payments on your credit report are not all weighed the same. Of course, late payments of 30 days or 60 days will not damage your credit score as badly as a bankruptcy.

However, surprisingly a 90 day late payment is a very severe bad credit mark and will do a lot of damage to your credit score. You have two options to delete and repair bad credit and remove any late payment marks on your credit report.

  1. You can contact the lender and ask them to remove the mark
This can be done over the phone or through the mail. Again, credit card companies and banks will certainly refuse your first request to remove the late payment information. However, here are is a tip to increase your chances of success:
Threaten to close your account if they refuse to update your credit report. Explain that the late payment was THEIR fault - not yours. This is where you can possibly win this battle.

Don't let them tell you it is impossible to remove late payments. Any creditor has the power to remove ANY negative mark. They choose what items to report to the credit bureaus. They may mislead you and say that a late payment must, by law, remain on your credit report for 7 years. This is a misinterpretation of the law. The 7 year mark is only a maximum time that a negative item can stay on your credit report. There is no minimum for the amount of time a negative mark can be reported. Thus a lender can remove a mark any time they see fit.

  2. You can dispute the late payment.
This is done be disputing the mark directly with the credit bureau. This method can be done yourself by sending in a credit repair letter in which you state why the mark is inaccurate and should be removed.

Then the bureau will conduct an investigation and if the mark is unverifiable or inaccurate it must be removed. The fact is many lenders are unwilling to spend the money or resources verifying negative marks. So, if you craft your dispute letter properly you have a decent chance of removing the late payment.

If you have had trouble remove a late payment or have other negative marks on your credit report I suggest using Lexington Law just like I did.
