Sample Dispute Letter
A dispute letter is used to challenge the accuracy or validity of a negative listing on your credit report. With this letter you can challenge:
- Charge Offs
- Collections
- Late Payments
- Judgments
This letter is your method of telling the credit bureau to investigate a listing on your credit report. Congress has created laws that force the bureaus to conduct these investigations.
However the bureaus have created a method to avoid investigations. They often respond to a dispute letter by requesting more information about the dispute.
They do this in an attempt to get the individual to give up on the process and just live with the negative mark. Thus you may have to send you letter multiple time before the bureaus deem it "valid" and conduct the investigation.
The reason they want to avoid investigations is because it causes them to spend money that would otherwise be profit.
However once an investigation takes place it has been found that negative listings are often removed because lenders are unwilling to spend the money to verify debts.
You don't have to live with negative listings on your credit report. You can have them removed and you can repair your credit score.
